Paquot
Ixelles
The renovation of this space in a courtyard block at the back of a small apartment building in Ixelles, was an extraordinary journey.
The existing building, once served as a warehouse, was in a state of neglect when it was purchased by the client who wanted to turn it into a unique architectural space. In fact, we only kept the party walls of the existing building. This allowed us significant freedom in the organization of spaces.
The ground floor is at street level at the front but is completely underground at the back. Starting from this unfavourable situation and, considering the significant length of the building, it seems obvious to us to focus the project on the search for light.
We worked on a fully glazed facade at the back and created large skylights to bring light to the basement. On the first level, the suspended garden comes in as a surprise and effectively serves the day spaces of the house.
